👔💙 Happy Fathe

Friday morning was time well spent at the South Lake Chamber of Commerce (FL) breakfast. I always enjoy the opportunity to connect with fellow Chamber members, catch up with familiar faces, and meet new people who are making a difference in our community.

A big thank you to Lance and the entire Orlando Health South Lake Hospital team for sharing an update on everything happening within the organization. There are so many exciting initiatives, investments, and opportunities on the horizon, and it’s inspiring to see the continued commitment to improving healthcare right here in South Lake County.

And, of course, thank you to Dave for giving me the chance to do my best princess wave during the trustee announcements. I’m not sure it was in the official agenda, but I was happy to step in for the role. 👋👑

Grateful for the connections, the conversations, and the opportunity to stay engaged with such an incredible business community.

🖤❤️💚 Honoring Juneteenth 💚❤️🖤

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It’s a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration of freedom, resilience, and Black excellence.

At New Heights Communication, we recognize the importance of honoring this moment in history while continuing to uplift and support the voices, stories, and contributions of Black communities.

Let today be a reminder that freedom is not just a date—it’s a commitment. ✊🏽

Everyone's talking about what homeowners save under Florida's proposed property tax reform.

Nobody's talking about what communities lose.

Not the fall festival. Not the community parade. Not the free concert in the park. Not the nonprofit running the after-school program your neighbor's kid depends on.

These aren't frivolous budget line items. They're economic drivers, community connectors, and in many cases the whole reason people feel invested in where they live. And they depend on municipal funding that is very much on the table right now.

I wrote about the part of this debate that isn't making the headlines -- and why those of us who work in events and nonprofits need to be the ones saying it out loud.

Most of us in the event world are not sitting around reading tax policy for fun.

But Florida's proposed property tax reform? This one's worth the coffee-fueled deep dive.

There's a constitutional amendment heading to the November ballot that could dramatically reduce -- and eventually eliminate -- property taxes on homesteaded properties statewide. For homeowners, there's real appeal in that. But the $14 billion in annual revenue that local governments stand to lose has to come from somewhere.

And some of what it currently funds? Parks. Libraries. Community events. Grants to nonprofits. The things that make a community feel like a community.

I broke down what's actually being proposed, where things stand right now, and what event organizers and nonprofits in South Lake County and Central Florida should be thinking about before November.

If you're running an event or a nonprofit in this region, this one's worth a read.

Let's talk about the thing nobody wants to admit.

You posted something recently. It got decent reach. Maybe a few likes. You could see that people saw it. You just couldn't tell if anyone actually cared.

That's not a content problem. That's a reach-without-resonance problem. And it's way more common than the marketing world likes to admit.

The brands and organizations seeing real results right now aren't chasing the biggest possible audience. They're going smaller. On purpose.

I wrote about why micro-community marketing is delivering higher ROI than mass reach, and what it actually looks like for small businesses and nonprofits who are already sitting on a built-in advantage they might not realize they have.

What an incredible evening at the Vita Foundation’s National Gala of Arts & Dance.

From the debutante presentation to the outstanding performances throughout the night, the event was a beautiful celebration of artistry, culture, and community. One of the highlights was seeing Roman and Galina take the floor fresh off their victory at the prestigious Blackpool Dance Festival. Watching world-class talent perform up close is always a reminder of just how powerful and inspiring dance can be.

Congratulations to the Vita Foundation and everyone who helped create such a memorable evening while supporting opportunities for youth, wheelchair dancers, and individuals with special needs. Grateful to have been part of it.
